Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Tidy ("the App") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
Summary: Tidy does not collect any personally identifiable data. File scans and cleanup operations stay entirely on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded. Files are only moved to Trash — never permanently deleted by the App. Anonymous crash reports are collected via Sentry to help us fix bugs.
Information We Collect
We do not collect any personally identifiable information. The App collects limited, anonymous data to improve quality:
- Crash reports (Sentry): Device type, OS version, and stack traces when the app crashes. No personally identifiable information is included. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
All file scanning and cleanup happens entirely on your local device without sending any file data, paths, or metadata to our servers.
How the App Works
Tidy performs the following operations locally on your Mac:
- Disk Scanning: The App scans folders you select (for example development caches, Xcode build artifacts, AI tool data, and duplicate files) to identify items that can be safely cleaned up.
- Cleanup: Items you choose to clean are moved to the macOS Trash. The App never permanently deletes files on your behalf — you remain in control via the Trash.
- Reporting: Disk usage summaries and counts are shown only inside the App and are not transmitted anywhere.
The App does not connect to any external servers during scanning or cleanup.
Data Security
We take the following measures to protect your data:
- App Sandbox: The App runs in Apple's App Sandbox, limiting its access to only files and folders you explicitly grant permission to.
- Trash-Only Cleanup: Files are moved to Trash, not unlinked, so you can recover any item if you change your mind.
- No Network Access During Scans: Scanning and cleanup do not require any network connections.
- Minimal External Services: The App connects only to Sentry for crash reporting. No file data is ever transmitted.
Third-Party Services
- Sentry — crash reporting and error tracking. Sentry collects device type, OS version, and stack traces to help us fix bugs. No personally identifiable information is collected. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes purchase data through Apple's payment infrastructure. We never receive or store your payment details directly. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple (App Store) — the app is distributed via the Mac App Store. Apple handles all payment processing. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
We do not use any advertising or user tracking services.
Data We Do NOT Collect
To be explicit, we do not collect:
- Personal identification information
- Usage statistics or patterns
- Location data
- File names, paths, contents, or any metadata about files on your Mac
- Analytics or telemetry data
Your Rights
Since we don't collect any data, there is no personal data to access, modify, or delete from our systems. All scans and cleanup actions happen locally on your device, and you have full control over them.
Children's Privacy
The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
