For a bug report, please include your macOS version (Apple menu ▸ About This Mac), the Glancery version (Glancery ▸ Settings ▸ About), what you did right before it happened and, for a search, the exact words you typed. A screenshot helps.

FAQ

Is Glancery available yet?
Not yet. Glancery is coming soon to the Mac App Store. To hear when it launches, email [email protected].

What is Glancery?
A file browser for your Mac that shows every folder, and every search, as big, clear thumbnails. You narrow things down by describing what you remember in plain English, such as “screenshots from last week”, “pdfs bigger than 5 MB in Downloads” or “photos taken with my iPhone last summer”, and Glancery shows exactly how it understood you.

Does it replace Finder?
It sits next to Finder. Use it to look through folders visually and to find things; Finder keeps doing everything else. Show in Finder is one right-click away.

Why does it ask for a folder on first launch?
Apps from the Mac App Store can’t see your files until you allow it. Choosing your Home folder once lets Glancery show everything in it; you can also choose only the folders you want, or click Not Now and add folders later. Add more (an external drive, say) with Add Folder… in the sidebar or File ▸ Open Folder…. Settings ▸ Erase App Data removes every folder you granted.

Can I try it without my own files?
Yes. Help ▸ Try with Sample Files… creates a “Glancery Samples” folder with 12 generated files wherever you choose, so you can try searches like “screenshots from last week” or “photos taken with my iPhone last summer”.

Does anything leave my Mac?
No. Glancery has no account, no analytics and no servers. It uses macOS’s own Spotlight index and Quick Look on your Mac. The only network use is the App Store, for in-app purchases. See the privacy policy.

What can I type?
Kinds (photos, screenshots, pdfs, videos, presentations, code…), dates (“yesterday”, “last week”, “in March”, “2 weeks ago”, “since June”, “last summer”), sizes (“bigger than 5 MB”, “huge”, “empty”), places (“in Downloads”, “on my desktop”, “in the Clients folder”), words in the name or text (“about budget”, “named contract”), where it came from (“downloaded from GitHub”), the camera (“taken with my iPhone”), exclusions (“except screenshots”) and order (“the 3 biggest”). The chips under the search field show how Glancery understood you; click ✕ on a chip to drop it.

A file I know exists doesn’t show up.
Glancery asks Spotlight, so if Spotlight hasn’t indexed a folder, Glancery can’t find files there. Check System Settings ▸ Spotlight ▸ Search Privacy (the folder must not be listed) and give Spotlight a few minutes after copying many files. Typing to filter the current folder (the “This Folder” scope) never needs Spotlight; pressing Return there also searches its subfolders, which does.

Thumbnails are slow on a network drive.
Thumbnails come from macOS Quick Look and need to read each file; over a network that takes time. They are cached while Glancery is open.

Which Macs are supported?
Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

How do I restore a purchase or request a refund?
Glancery ▸ Settings ▸ Restore Purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account. Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com.
